[Sep 13 2009] Today is the last day of racing in the 2009 Rolex Big Boat Series. Our weather will again be cloudy with occasional showers. Winds out of the SW to WSW between 10 and 20 knots. For the final race of the series, all competitors will sail 'Bay Tour' courses between 18 and 30 miles in length depending on the boat class - all will finish downwind in front of the club.
[Sep 12 2009] In the IRC-D division, Tupelo Honey maintains her winning streak with straight bullets across 6 races. She shares that honor with Velos who has done the same in IRC-B. Inspired Environments maintains her unbroken streak of second place each day in IRC-D. In IRC-C, Soozal is on top with a 1 and a 2 today and 4 point lead over Gold Phoenix who had a solid 2 and a 1 today. In IRC-B Swiftsure II with a 2 - 2 today and Wasabi with a 3-3 are neck and neck on points. Only a point separates Vincitore in first in IRC-A and Flash who had a 1-3 today and only 3 points ahead of Samba Pa Ti who bulleted the last race of the day.
[Sep 12 2009] Short of a miracle, Gone with The Wind in the Cal 40 division has first place locked up with two bullets today sealing her postion at 8 points. She is followed by Shaman and Azure who both had solid days trading 3rd and 2cd places race over race. In the 1D35's, Diablita was on fire with a 1 and a 2 giving her a 7 point margin over Ebb Tide and 8 points over Alpha Puppy. Chance and Desdemona in the J/120 division are tied in first, follwed by Dayenu.
[Sep 12 2009] In the J/105 division on day 3 of racing, Good Timin' had a 19 in race 5, but came back with a 2 in race 6 and sits on top of the leaderboard followed by Jam Session and Jabberwocky who posted a 1 and 3 to pull her well up in the division. The 36.7's saw Mistral post a 3 and 1 moving her up to third behind Ay Caliente! and Summer and Smoke who heads up the division at this point.
[Sep 12 2009] A thick cloud cover that greeted racers in race 5 of the 2009 Rolex Big Boat Series gave way to sunshine and breezes shifting more westerly for race 6. Day 3 is now wrapped up. In the Melges 32 fleet, Rougarou posted two bullets and sits on top of the leader board, followed by Viva and Taboo. Pegasus retired just after rounding the weather mark in race 5. Golden Moon posted solid scores today with a strong lead for the division.
[Sep 12 2009] A strong band of thunderstorms rolled into the Bay Area around 4AM knocking out power in certain areas. Smaller bands continue to roll through as of 7AM. Occasional showers are expected throughout the day with changeable breeze from the Southwest.
[Sep 11 2009] Day 2 of racing in the 2009 Rolex Big Boat Series has wrapped up, and at the halfway point of the regatta there have been some changes in the leaderboard. Rougarou is on top of the leaderboard in the Melges 32 fleet followed by Viva and Pegasus. Soozal is heading IRC-C, but Gold Phoenix and Resolute are coming on strong. In the 1D35 Division, Alpha Puppy, Ebb Tide, and Diablita are tied on points. In IRC-A Flash had a good day with a bullet in the last race, and are currently standing in second behind Vincitore.
[Sep 11 2009] With results now posting from Race 1, Race 2 is underway with the flood tide sending most boats short tacking up the city front. While the fog that lingered under the Golden Gate Bridge this morning has cleared, a thin cloud cover is closing in from the Southwest. Breeze at the top of the course is lighter than this morning now between 8-10. At the bottom of the course, breeze had built to ~17 knots for race one, but is fading as well as the cloud cover creeps in.
[Sep 11 2009] Good Morning from the Race Deck! Another beautiful day. Racers are heading out to the race course. Today the Gold Fleet group will have their first race on the North Course, while the Green Fleet Group will start on the CityFront course. Rolex Big Boat Series PRO Kevin Reeds provides a
morning briefing on Twitter.
[Sep 10 2009] In the 1D35 class, the heat is on. Diablita is up on a double deuce, but Dark and Stormy and Alpha Puppy - with inverse positions race over race - are hot on the trail. But look out for Toyama-san!
[Sep 10 2009] In the J/120 class, Steve Madeira's Mister Magoo comes out of Day One racing on top of the leader board with Chance and Dayenu in close pursuit. But the Hawaiin mojo might just be fueling up!
[Sep 10 2009] In the Cal 40 Class, Bill Leroy took the top of the staircase today on Gone With the Wind. But this fleet can trade places faster than greased lighting. With one of the lowest point spreads on the race card, watch for this fleet to work every current change and wind shift.
[Sep 10 2009] In their debut as a class at the Rolex Big Boat Series the 36.7 fleet put some memorable start and finish moves down with Ay Caliente! hotting up the leader board with Mistral and Summer and Smoke juggling to trade places. This will be one to watch.
[Sep 10 2009] Some new faces on the J/105 Rolex Big Boat Series leader board. Mojo, Jam Session and One Trick Pony pulled some 'tricks' out today and have put some serious show down to perennial favorites Good Timin' and Donkey Jack.
[Sep 10 209] In the Express 37 Division, Kame Richards is all sunshine on the Golden Moon, but this group may know more about each other than their own mothers do. Stay tuned, cards will be coming out of hip pockets as racing progresses.
[Sep 10 2009] In the Melges 32 fleet, Andy Lovell and Berton Benrud put Rougarou on the map in a big way with locals, Taboo and Viva rounding out the leader board.
[Sep 10 2009] In IRC-D, the timing is very tight between the top three contenders. Tupelo Honey has seen this movie before, but Hawkeye has come back better and wiser. For this division - local knowledge may be the pay money! And there's lots of it in this group.
[Sep 10 2009] IRC-C, Daniel Woolery and Soozal had a great day with two bullets and the heat is ON between Soozal and last year's division winner TNT. Showdown predicted. And into the mix this year we have Golden Phoenix - James Bishop's 'west coast pony' who has done well on the East Coast in IRC regattas. Heads are seriously down for the US-IRC National Championship title.
[Sep 10 2009] In IRC-B, Velos took two bullets. For this division, it all might be in the math. Wasabi - the new Kernan 44 had a nice showing and is mixing it up with an interesting grouping of yacht types, and for sure in this division... the conditions will make a difference.
[Sep 10 2009] Coming back this year to defend her title in IRC-A, Samba Pa Ti contended with a strong "All 52" fleet which saw Vincitore and Mayhem heading up the leader board. The cards on this class may lie in the weather...
[10 Sep 2009] A beautiful day greeted racers on the first day of the 2009 Rolex Big Boat Series. Warm sunshine, and mild breezes made for a day of picturesque racing. Two races for each division and class were run on the CityFront course and North Courses saw Golden Moon in the Express 37 class, Gone With the Wind in the Cal 40 class, Vincitore in IRC-A, Velos in IRC-B, Soozal in IRC-C, and Tupelo Honey in IRC-D with double bullets.
